Total Control Reviews
There was no romance in this one, all thanks to Indi, a cold-hearted character who wouldn't admit her feelings and stop fighting them. She was rather selfish, only concerned with whether or not she could handle something, not at all worried about Todd's feelings and the hurtful things she said to him.
I really liked the beginning of this book. The characters were so great and you could feel the emotions between Indi and Todd, along with the little boy. Some of the scenes were so heartwrenching and touching! That being said, I felt the ending was a bit rushed and didn't show enough between Indi and Todd--their HEA was a bit abrupt to me. However, I would still recommend this book. You'll definitely enjoy it.
I was expecting the same twist to the story that is found in every romance but this story rings true and touches the heart. I cried and smiled.
i have read all of her books and i enjoy them very much. they are just a lot of fun to read
Total Control by Pamela Britton
I must admit that, other than blaze, I'm not a fan of Harlequin books or Nascar for that matter. Now Britton (author) has me singing a different tune. This was a surprisingly good read. Nascar and the romance take second fiddle to the touching story about a very sick little boy and the Miracles foundation (similar to Make-A-Wish). Normally I like my romance books to contain a lot more romance, but I didn't mind it as much here.
Just a warning, this book is a tear jerker. The romance is there but it's not in full force like the other Nascar romance books in this series. The lead character in this book is a 10 year old little boy with cancer that wants a wish granted with a Nascar driver. It helps if you've read the other books in the series so that you already know who Todd Peters is and the other surrounding characters that are mentioned in the books. Ms. Britton gives some updates on the other couples in the series. I love how she told you about a driver's life off the track and the events they attend. She really got into the driver's head about his off time and how he handles all the functions going on. Ms. Britton really didn't go into the wish foundation charity. Not sure if she didn't know anyone from that area or not. I thought it was interesting how she brought in a fictional Victory Junction camp and then stated that proceeds from buying the book would go there. That would be enough for me to buy this book. It's a quick enjoyable read.
I thought this was a good story about a sick child and a decent story about NASCAR racing. It was however NOT a good romance. There was almost no interaction between romantic couple. The love scenes did not exsist at all. The author should have spent less time describing the childs' illness and including ALL details of the car races and more time focused on the love story. If it had not been labeled a romance at all I might have enjoyed it more as it was well written. The problem was I kept waiting for the relationship to develop in vain. The end seemed so rushed and I left this book thinking it could have been a keeper with just a little more effort by Britton. I gave it 3 stars because you do fall in love with the boy and I did enjoy his story. Based on the love story alone it would have been a 1 star!
