This was a replacement for a lost reference. It is quite informative as well as extensive intended for new growers who wish to get or expand their knowledge of the basics of orchid culture beyond the often 5 or less plants group and afraid of killing one or more by inadequate care. a lot of varied information some of which may take more than brief skimming. Not too technical for most people. Recommended.

This book is really a must: comprehensive, consistent, very simple to understand. It is written with competence and with hearth.

I have the 1990 edition of this book which also has some out of date info like the previous poster was disappointed with, but after growing orchids for 13 years and reading many books on orchids, I finally found this one and wish it was the first one I read. Despite some of the info being out of date, I have NEVER found one book with so much information as this one, and no, Besseae and Kovachii hadn't been discovered yet, but what do you expect when you buy a book from before the time period that happened? I think anyone who doesn't see the value of this book has just not been growing long enough to appreciate the plethora of useful information inside. Its not one I'd recommend for today's younger beginner because it is of intimidating size, but if you're the kind of person who wants to know everything you can about the subject of if you were born in the 80's, then even if you are a beginner, this book is for you.
