The Family Cruise Companion's Guide to Cruising with Kids Reviews
The Family Cruise Companion Guide To Cruising With Kids
The Family Cruise Companion’s Guide to Cruising with Kids is an invaluable resource for any family considering a cruise – whether first timers or veterans. This comprehensive guide covers the full range of issues a family confronts when deciding whether and how to book a cruise vacation – from how to select a good fit for the family’s interests; where to seek discounts; when to use the cruise line versus private vendors or agents to book reservations or excursions; the logistics of getting to and from embarkation and debarkation points; the offerings available on competing cruise lines, with a particular focus on childcare and family activities; how to pack, set a budget, and ensure safety; and how to make sense of the dizzying array of lodging, dining and entertainment options. Ms. Warren’s prose is a colloquial, easy to read style, peppered with personal anecdotes about the best and worst experiences she has had cruising with her two children over many years. The book (and its descriptive table of contents) logically proceeds from decisions that need to be made at the first inkling you want to consider a cruise through your safe return, hopefully eager to book your next cruise. Ms. Warren’s extensive experience with multiple cruise lines and destinations makes her an authority on best practices for cruising with young children. She offers helpful cruising tips large and small – some intuitive and some obscure (for example, bring magnets to utilize stateroom walls as bulletin boards; instructions on what to pack on port days; how to analyze beverage plans; making airport transfers stress free). As a bonus, the book includes helpful appendices including checklists, websites and other resources to help you plan for a successful, safe, relaxing vacation for the whole family. This book will save you dozens of hours aimlessly flipping through travel websites as well as significant fees by revealing strategies for finding the best deals.
Don't cruise without this book. I have enjoyed cruising for many years, including with a small child, and I regret not having had this book for my previous trips. This is one of the most thorough and detailed travel guides that I have read. This book provides the information that you need to cruise with children from start to finish. The information about selecting cruises, travel agents, and pricing is particularly helpful to have all in one place. It also provides helpful information about mistakes to avoid. The book also appeals to travelers with different styles, from those who plan every detail to those who enjoy "winging it" at times. From planning shore excursions and childcare to creating smart things-to-remember lists and ideas for economizing cabin space, this guides provides thoughtful insight on virtually every aspect of cruising in a family-friendly way.
A great book! This book is a clear, cogent, informed and compassionate guide to the world of cruising for families. We have never been on a cruise and I was overwhelmed by the amount of information- let alone the thought including the kids in our planning. But now I know what questions to ask, what pitfalls to avoid and the hot tips for saving money! This book is really a goldmine and I (ALMOST) feel guilty buying it and now being so much more informed than the average traveler!
This is a must-read for anyone going on a cruise with kids! Loaded with fantastic tips for how parents and children can enjoy a cruise together. Warren sets out all the decisions you must make (book your cruise though a travel agent or the cruise line directly? buy the beverage package? book excursions through the cruise line, or wing it?) and gives a clear description of the cruise lines and the pros and cons of each. There's also a detailed description of what to expect on a cruise, how to deal with luggage, and much more. Highly recommended for anyone cruising with kids.
I was super doubtful that I could cruise with kids and have a good time, but we had a remarkable trip thanks to the Family Cruise Companion and have already booked a second cruise! This wonderful guide is well-organized, easy to read, and SUPER helpful. If you're thinking of cruising with your family, but it and keep it close!!
I really appreciate the straight forward, practical advice in this book. Both the ups and downs of cruising are pinpointed, arming you with what you need to know to maximize the ups and minimize the downs. I especially appreciated the detailed advice on choosing accomodations, and the tips for maximizing use of space in the cabin. The packing advice obviously comes from a lot of experience, and the links to free downloads of packing lists and other resources are fantastic!
