I got this book about five years ago and finally got a shiba late last year and let me tell you - he is almost 100% text book. I don't think one can buy a shiba without first knowing what you are getting into. Maybe I got lucky that he didn't fight the leash, was nearly crate trained, took an hour to teach him to sit and house breaking was done about two-three months of age. My shiba doesn't like large crowds or kids coming up to him in an aggressive/quick manner. Will not bark when I'm not home (if I knock on the door coming in) but if I'm home he will bark when someone barks. As soon as puberty hit, he did show signs of aggression towards people and other dogs but after he was snipped it was like a new dog (so that does help).

The Complete Pet Owner's Manual series, published by Barron, is a nice general reference for dog owners of any breed, and this book is no exception. It couples readable text with bright and attractive photographs, and it would make a good place to start researching if you are interested in owning a Shiba Inu of your own.

Although the SHIBA INUS (COMPLETE PET OWNER'S MANUAL) book is kind of thin it packs a lot of information on this lesser known Japanese dog breed. I bought this book a couple of years ago to learn more about Shiba Inus and finally got around to reading it this year.

I will be bringing home my first Shiba Inu this coming June, so I wanted some breed-specific information since they're not a super common type of dog in my area. This book gives a great overview of the breed and how to best approach training for a stubborn and intelligent dog like the Shiba. Great purchase for $9!

Very good basic dog book on the Shiba's. I wouldn't look at it as a training book. But definitely a "pet owner's" book.

As a new owner of a Shiba this book was very helpful in learning about the dog, care and training.

Excellent book for first time Shiba Inu owners. This book covers all the basics and breed specifics and is FULL OF CUTE PUPPY PICTURES OMG. Worth it for the pictures alone, and it kept me company and created much anticipation until my own beautiful puppy arrived.
