Aircraft: The Jet as Art Reviews
This book has the very best set of aircraft photographs I have ever seen. The precision the photographer used in perfectly focusing, exposing and framing the subjects is astonishing. You can literally see the rivets on the aircraft, and as an aviation photographer, I can tell you that is a very difficult accuracy to achieve.
A brilliant intersection of art and technology. Milstein photogtaphs the underbelly (literally) of our commercial aviation fleet, reveals its beauty, its power, and the unseen side of a lot of fancy jets. It provokes thought as to who we are as a society and sheds light on the craft of the designers whose names are never known.
I got really irritated reading all the negative reviews for this book because had these people done any research prior to buying, they would know that Jeffrey Milstein is an ARTIST not just some photographer with a airplane fetish. If you are obsessed with airplanes & are looking for a documentation of the artwork/graphic designs on aircrafts or mechanical aspects of these planes, then no, this is not the book for you. If you are the kind of person who does not understand how Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup can was art, then you should probably avoid buying art books all together. May the Lord help you!
This is a beautiful homage for those who love airliners. The minimalist approach and detailed photography is breathtaking. The beauty of industrial design is perfectly depicted. This book is a must for both aviation enthusiasts to industrial designers.
Great photographer. Book does some, but not full, justice to his work. Would be better in a larger format, higher quality.
You really have to be a plane person to fully appreciate this book. But even a casual observer will notice the quality that is put into the volume both in the photography and the book itself. It left me wishing there was more and I mean that in a positive sense.
this is a beatifull book, another book of aircraft!!!!!!!, is Art, perfect
The Smithsonian displayed enlarged art from this book, and I instantly knew I needed to buy it. The graphics are large and colorful, without overwhelming the viewer. I highly recommend this product, but not its purchase. Every copy I have received from Amazon is damaged in some respect. The first copy had a ripped dust jacket and bent hard cover. The second copy was structurally sound, but filthy on the back part of the dust jacket. If I knew the frustration in dealing with these damaged books, I never would have bought it.
