Most dog training books are too general and are "more guidelines than actual rules". This book on the other other hand, gives you step by step, super simple, firefighter friendly, "do it exactly like this" instructions that the only way to not have success is to not follow instructions. It truly is like having Mr. Koehler right there telling you exactly what to do. The best part is that this is really two books in one.

Let me begin by saying that I LOVE dogs. That being said, I feel that far too many people believe it is unkind to take this no nonsense approach to dog training.... Dogs are magnificent animals, and to be fully enjoyed and appreciated in human society, they NEED to be well-behaved! Unfortunately, if a dog is out of control, jumping on people, wreaking havoc, creating chaos, or worse, actually dangerously aggressive... people judge the dog and hate the dog. It is the owner who is at fault for not properly raising and training the dog with APPROPRIATE discipline! Too many people buy into the idea that if you love a dog (or a child) you let him/her do whatever he/she wants without any real correction for INAPPROPRIATE behavior. The dog then learns that while he might get a treat for good behavior, there are no real consequences for bad behavior. At some point, the dog is going to realize that he can behave however he jolly well wants, and sometimes it's more fun to behave badly! Those sometimes will start to become all the time. This book will help you teach your dog to be a perfect gentleman/lady so that he/she will be WELCOME in all society, and even more, everyone can fully appreciate your dog. It will help you teach your dog that there are consequences to bad behavior. AND all this is done in a humane way that actually shows respect for a dog's intelligence. This book should be required reading for all dog owners in my humble opinion.

A week ago I downloaded this book to train my bull terrier that was pulling hard on the lead. I acquired this dog that I love very much. I had used this training method with another bully 10 years ago. Someone took my copy. I have to say viewing this book in kindle is a drag. I can't go back and forth to see illustrations. I will be actually buying this book again in paper back.

Excellent introduction into dog training, sans treats. Teaches respect between dog and owner. We tried a few techniques on our two too smart collies, with very good results. Highly recommend.

You can't beat this book if you REALLY want a dependable dog. It's humorous but to the point and if you do what it says you'll have a 100% dependable dog that won't wanker out on you when in an emergency or important situation. I train Schipperkes and have trained Rotties for Schutzhund in the past; this is the method to use. These dogs are too strong willed and smart for treat based or positive reinforcement training which is so popular today. This is old school training that worked then as good as it works now.
