Wisdomkeepers: Meetings With Native American Spiritual Elders (The Earthsong Collection) Reviews
Well...this is NOT a novel or flowing story. It is a series of very special interviews and meetings with Tribal elders from many different parts of the country. Their insight and wisdom is shared with two young journalists who were given a unique opportunity to speak with all of these incredible people. The insight and deep emotion that is shared is heart and spirit opening.
What a debt of gratitude we owe Arden and Wall for this compilation of teachings by Native American elders. Beautifully photographed and written, this book became the beginning of my own spiritual journey, a journey I had not necessarily planned to make. When I finished the book, I felt a sense of loss at there not being more books, more teachings. And then came Travels in a Stone Canoe and other books. And so the journey continues...
There is an importance in the simplicity of things that are real and natural that is expressed eloquently by the people in this book. We need to be reminded, at times of the fact that most of the material things we have, we do not need. People can still live in harmony with the natural world, be very content with their lives. Most people think human beings are material beings with a spiritual side. The Wisdomkeepers live knowing that human beings are spiritual beings with a material side.
A journalist and photographer tour the country and speak with the spiritual leaders of various tribes and record snippets of their sayings in this book. I took off one star because there are instances of racism, but other than that, I found it a spiritual uplifting book.
