Blues Instrumentals: Guitar Play-Along Volume 91 (Hal Leonard Guitar Play-Along) Reviews
I love this book and it's play-a-long CD. It comes with the automatic slow down software so that you listen and learn or play along at a slower speed - but, you are still playing in-time with a band. The backing tracks are very good, often indistinguishable from the original recordings. Also for you Led Zeppelin fans - Earl Hooker's "Blue Guitar" was the basis for Zep's "You Shook Me." Why learn the song from the same recording Jimmy Page was listening to.
With only one word ,Ì'll describe this product....WOW...EXCELLENT...here you have it all: shuffles, jump blues, slide guitar, boogies, et all!!!..the playing is excellent (actually I don't know if these are the originals , or played by studio musicians, for just this product)..most of the songs are pretty fast, so it's not for the beguining guitarist...your playing is going to excell after playing just a couple of bars of each song, and all the blues licks and tricks are here. BUY IT...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This book is just fine in all respects, except the one instrumental I wanted it for - is not in the Key of E!!! It's the Honky Tonk instrumental. I'll use the book to learn other instrumentals, so not wasted. Maybe, I could have returned it, but I opened the CD to hear the songs, before looking at the Honk Tonk music. Would be nice to have each song listed with the Key it's written in.
I have a couple of the Play-Along volumes and they have proven valuable in building additional chops and technique. While the included CD does not contain the original recorded versions, the covers are of high quality and the matching TAB shows the exact notes being played. Keep in mind -- this is NOT an instructional guide that breaks down the songs to teach you the licks. What is provided is a cover of each song (at speed) along with TABs. Also included is a backing track for each song without the lead guitar so you can play along. With that being said, this guide can be used to provide excellent instruction. To best use the material for learning, the songs can be slowed down so you can follow along with the TAB. This requires an external device or a PC with the right software -- I use a standalone guitar trainer device for this purpose and have no experience using the software included with the CD. Whether you want to learn some additional licks or some of the entire songs, I would recommend this product.
thank you very much!
