Women of Wisdom Reviews
What I love about this book is that the scholarship is excellent (Lama Tsultrim began the research for it as part of her Master's Degree in Buddhism and Women's Studies at Antioch) and yet her personal story, and the stories of the women whose biographies she includes, are deeply compelling and inspiring. All too often the scholarly and personal do not come together in this way to create a powerful read.
Tsultrim Allione has done womankind, and thus humanity, a huge service in presenting the stories of tantrikas, or women of wisdom of old Tibet. With their singular, unconventional lifestyles, dedicated to spiritual practice, tantrikas are inspiring if not more like awe-inspiring. Modern women would do well to learn their lessons by studying their lives.
I am just starting this book and I am already in love with the subject matter and the story of the author. I appreciate the way she is weaving the histories of these Tibetan Buddhist female mystics and is strong in her practice and devotion to her lineage-and the focus truly is on that-, while also sharing an authentic appreciation of goddess culture as it has evolved across the world. I look forward to more! Great book, seller shipped timely.
Very interesting reading though on the other hand quite discouraging since for average western women it is quite impossible to receive such vast teaching as the women did in the book. It is inspiring but I would appreciate the following edition - the biographies of women out of Tibet who achieved the realization or who are on the spiritual way. Tsultrim Allione is definitely one of them and she is for me such great example.
I looked forward to reading this book, by the reviews given by others.
Very helpful contribution to the understanding of Tibetan Buddhism, underscoring the importance of Tibetan women practitioners in the spiritual quest.
This a moving, scholarly , human and enlightening book.
I chose the "I like it" rating because it provided new facts and insights into the role of not only the particular women mentioned in the text, but also the book was right with insights in to the role of women in general in religion.
