Baltimore's Country Cousins: Album Quilt Patterns Reviews
I ordered this book because I was looking for some applique patterns that are based on the traditional look of the Baltimore designs, but ones that could be adapted to a more country/primitive appearance. This book is exactly what I needed. The designs closely mimic the elegant Baltimore designs, but are more simple in their construction. There is no mistaking the style as a Baltimore spin-off but the patterns have a much more casual feel to them. The pieces are not quite so elaborate as their Baltimore 'parents' but they have the same trademark elements that make the Baltimore quilts so very pretty. The patterns in the book are done in the form of attached pages, so you will need to photocopy them and go from there. They are easy to enlarge or reduce on your printer, so getting the size you need is quite simple. The photographs are excellent and the instructions, while geared toward fabric use, are clear and easy to follow.
I rate this book high because it is user friendly and eye candy. The full color pages are both pleasing to look at and inspirational. The placing of the color pattern image and the pattern together is more friendly than looking in the back of the book for a pattern to match a project. In addition, Susan McKelvey is very good at writing directions. And all of this makes the process of creating something beautiful with fabric a much more enjoyable experience.
Great book, nice patterns, easier than the traditional Baltimore Album type quilts but very different.
I was looking for new applique patterns and these are really good. They are not so traditional as the Baltimore quilts.
The blocks in this book are beautiful. I'm toying with making another quilt with different blocks from the book this time. If you love applique, you'll love this!
