Whole Larder Love: Grow Gather Hunt Cook Reviews
I respect the author and what he set out to do. Unfortunately, the final product left me lacking.
I bought the kindle version of this book after flipping through it in a book store and being intrigued. Unfortunately it proved to be very difficult to read on a kindle because its photo scans of the book... shrunk down to fit on screen. Would have been fantastic to be released as a comicbook style. I have perfect sight and a 7" fire HD and had to skip some paragraphs because they were too small to read.
Really really liked this book. Rohan's ideas on food, sustainability and family ring clear as a bell for me.
I bought this book knowing there would not be a lot of new information for me. If you're looking for a book that is an intro to gardening, foraging, and hunting this is not. (As if those skills could be taught in one book) What this is is a great primer on a sustainable food lifestyle. It is far more than just food grown yourself, but food that is delicious! This book has several great recipes. I've tried a couple they were wonderful. I look forward to trying the rest. What this book is is beautiful. The photographs, the typeset, the way the cover is laid out, the quality of the paper stock. Worth the purchase. I could not be happier with it. It will be like a coffee table book in our house.
Very practical...everything from gardening tips to practical recipes. If you can't garden or forage, you can still get your special ingredients at a farmer's market, so be too worried about the availability of ingredients. If you still can't find something, it probably doesn't grow in your area and using would defeat the entire purpose of the book. It's visually interesting to top it all off!
I love the eclectic and un-stuffy way this book was written and assembled. It feels less like a mass produced tome and more like a collection of photos, anecdoets and recipes compiled by a friend as a gift. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in becoming more self-sufficient and more in touch with the land and its gifts of food and forage.
good book with a lot of great information and reference pictures
This is a great book. For anyone who has read Rohan's blog "whole larder love" this book will feel familiar as it totally captures Rohan's attitude and style of writing. It is a cookbook but it also has a lot of good information about how to start living a more self sustaining lifestyle. The recipes are excellent! Very highly recommend!
