Brett Florens' Guide to Photographing Weddings Reviews
If you are like me, considering adding wedding coverage to your photography business, then this is a great read. Florens touches on every aspect of shooting a wedding: equipment, shooting styles, marketing, key moments, etc., with just enough technical guidance to make it interesting without reading like a camera manual or a textbook. And he packs the book with his beautiful images. It doesn't hurt that his talent and experience take him all around the world shooting beautiful people in gorgeous locations. Now that I've read the book, I have at least 2 pieces of new equipment I feel I must have. One of them is an Elinchrom Ranger, a portable studio strobe, essentially. My next photography book I plan to read is about flash and getting more versatile with it, so I should read that before making the purchase, but when you see the difference such a good light source makes in his images, you'll want one too. You know, having read this book, I feel less intimidated by the thought of shooting a wedding on my own. I enjoyed it for so many reasons, but especially for that.
Wedding Photography can be difficult enough in and of itself. To have a book a resources such as this that begins saying that Before you take your first shot you need to know this. People skills are a must for a Wedding photographer and the author explains the way behind it. I also like how Brett explained the different styles of wedding photographer and how they are related and very few authors have done this. The book has 11 very well thought out chapters from Tools of the Trade to Postproduction. I really like a Wedding Photography books that has a section on Marketing. To often some people just look at the equipment and poses and have no foundation. This books lays down a solid foundation. Get this book for yourself or give it as gift, I don't think the reader will be disappointed.
Mr. Floren's book on wedding photography is a well written basic overview of wedding photography. It is an enjoyable read and the photographs used in the book are outstanding. Certainly it is a book I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
I have followed Brett's work for close on 8 Years now and am amazed to find new ideas to shooting, through the guidance he offers in this book. He explains with accuracy the likely situations a wedding photographer may be faced with and offers advice, which makes you rethink your whole purpose as a photographer. His passion for his work is evident as he covers almost every detail you'd need to consider.
I really enjoyed Brett Florens' approach to Weddings. One can be assured that he is a true professional who really knows his field. His explanations are down to earth, easy to grasp and to implement. Wedding Photography may only be my second income, but I feel more confident and equipped to shoot my clients weddings. Great job Brett. I hope to go to one of your workshops one day.
Wow, a complete digest on the world of wedding photography. This is a extremely taxing industry, with many nuances on how to handle clients, printing and other services. It's nice to have a guide such as this to help someone new or a professional looking for a fresh perspective. Excellent job!
