Brooklyn's Most Wanted: The Top 100 Criminals, Crooks and Creeps from the County of the Kings Reviews
Awesome book of the degenerates that roam the streets I grew up on. Even recognized a few people I grew up with and so many places that were part of my youth in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn's most notorious criminals rated for the first time in a "Notorious Brooklyn Index!"
While they never crossed paths, criminals like President Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth, Billy the Kid, and the Son of Sam killer have one thing in common: Brooklyn. This is just one of the juicy morsels that can be found in Craig McGuire's fascinating book about the plethora of crime figures who have strolled the streets Brooklyn, McGuire's home town. He grew up surrounded by stories of mob bosses and murderers, and armed with a degree from New York's Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and experience as journalist, he turned his reportorial eye to his notorious neighborhood. This book highlights many epic cases, such as The Brooklyn Godmother, The Sex Killer of Brooklyn, The Nurse Girl Murder, The Long Island Railroad Massacre, The Thrill Kills Gang, and many more. If that doesn't whet your appetite, there's much more about multi-ethnic mobs who mimic the original Cosa Nostra – the Russian Mafia, the Albanian Mafia, the Polish Mafia, the Greek Mafia. Belly up to the bar and help yourself because this book is a veritable feast for true crime aficionados.
A lot of history is hidden, especially crime history. Crime is part of history, part of who we are. So the history of crime is important to understanding our culture. Craig McGuire's exploration of Brooklyn's long, storied, infamous crime history is a gem! The list is much longer than 100 but this survey of historic crime figures in Brooklyn is a delightful read for devoted true-crime fans who want to go deeper than today's headlines.

I've been a Brooklyn native my entire life. To find out that my hometown was filled with so much debauchery was eye opening. This book totally dives into the underbelly of New York's most infamous borough. Such an interesting account. This book is highly recommended for anyone that loves true crime (you get 100 stories in one book!) and is interested in New York city and it's origins. I couldn't put it down.
